Field Hockey Wins Second Straight, Sweeps Season Series with Seton Hill

INDIANA, Pa. – Sophomore Selena West (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) scored a goal and assisted on another to help IUP to a 2-1 home field hockey victory over Seton Hill under the lights at Miller Stadium on Tuesday night.

Senior goalie Alyssa Lerda (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland) saved a pair of shots in the cage to secure the win as the Crimson Hawks improved to 6-4 overall and evened their Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) record at 2-2.

Seton Hill falls to 2-8 overall and 0-3 in the conference.

Senior Sarah Zielinski (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) opened up the scoring with a goal in the 26th minute, as West found the fellow forward and notched the assist.

West gave the Crimson Hawks a 2-0 lead in the first half, scoring her fourth goal of the season in the 39th minute. The goal came off of a penalty corner and pass from sophomore Kalista Gioglio (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg).

Seton Hill managed to get on the board in the 53rd minute with a goal from Nicole Susi. That was the Griffins final shot of the game, however, with the IUP defense keeping SHU out of their offense end the rest of the game.

The Crimson Hawks held a 7-5 advantage in shots for the game and a 15-8 advantage in penalty corners.

The game was the last at home for the Crimson Hawks for nearly three weeks as they play their next four games on the road, starting at Mercyhurst next Wednesday, Oct. 12.
