GREENSBURG, Pa. – Even with a loss at Seton Hill on Saturday, IUP women's volleyball secured a berth in the 2016 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships, the program's first since 2004. The Crimson Hawks lost to Seton Hill in three sets, but a Clarion loss to California (Pa.) gave IUP the tiebreaking nod.
The Crimson Hawks finish the regular season with 19-10 overall record and a 10-8 mark in PSAC play. IUP will head into the conference tournament as the seventh seed and will head to second seed Edinboro on Tuesday night. Match time for the first round contest will be 7 p.m.
Against Seton Hill, IUP dropped sets of 25-14, 26-24, and 25-21. Senior
Lily McWilliams (Rockville, Md./Thomas Sprigg Wootton) had a team-high 13 kills, while junior
Natalie Cignetti (Indiana, Pa. /Indiana) added nine.
Seton Hill (19-12, 11-7) outhit the Crimson Hawks .231 to .083 for the match. IUP had 25 hitting errors.
Senior setter
Lindsay Moeller (Troy, Mich./Troy) dished out 23 assists and led the Crimson Hawks with 14 digs defensively. Sophomore libero
Jess Marut (Painesville, Ohio/Riverside) had 12 digs.
This postseason appearance will be IUP's first overall since 2010, when the Crimson Hawks made the NCAA Atlantic Region Championships. IUP's only conference title came in 2002.
