BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Freshman guard
Malik Miller (Farrell, Pa./Farrell) hit a floater with six seconds remaining to push 24th-ranked IUP men's basketball to a 63-61 win over Bloomsburg on Sunday afternoon. The win was the fifth straight to start the season for the Crimson Hawks.
Junior guard
Anthony Glover (Toledo, Ohio/St. John's Jesuit) controlled the ball on IUP's go-ahead possession, driving the baseline before kicking it out to Miller when the defense collapsed. Miller took to the lane and sunk a floater in traffic to put the Crimson Hawks up by two.
Bloomsburg (2-2, 0-2) had a final chance to tie the game, but senior forward
Devon Cottrell (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Gateway) swatted the layup attempt from the opposite side of the lane as time ran out to seal victory for IUP.
The late highlights/antics were part of a tight game that had 14 ties and 13 lead changes, with the largest lead of eight coming midway through the first half.
The Crimson Hawks (5-0, 2-0) outshot Bloomsburg 43 percent to 30 percent in the opening half, but turned the ball over 10 times as they took a 29-27 lead into the break. Bloomsburg led by two with 1:17 to play, but Glover hit the game-tying free throws with a minute to play.
Sophomore forward
Jacobo Diaz (Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain/CBA Gran Canaria) posted his third straight double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds, going 9-of-13 from the field and 2-of-3 from three-point range. Glover dropped 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting, hitting four three-pointers and grabbing five rebounds.
