GREENSBURG, Pa. – Senior forward
Daddy Ugbede (Gardena, Calif./Serra) came off the bench to score 26 points but the Crimson Hawks couldn't slow down a hot-shooting Seton Hill team as IUP lost to the Griffins 91-83 on Wednesday night at the Salvitti Gymnasium.
It was the regular season finale for both teams, as IUP wrapped up the year as the PSAC West champions while Seton Hill clinched the division's fifth seed in the upcoming conference tournament.
The Crimson Hawks head into the postseason with a 20-7 record and a 17-5 mark in conference play. Seton Hill ends the regular season at 13-13 and 11-11 in the league.
The division champion gives IUP a first round bye in the tournament and the Crimson Hawks will host the winner of the 4/5 matchup between Pitt-Johnstown and Seton Hill in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, March 1 at 7:30 p.m.
Ugbede turned in a highly efficient game, tying his career-high in scoring in just 24 minutes on the floor, finishing 10-of-15 from the field and 6-of-7 from the foul line. He also had five rebounds.
Senior guard
Brandon Norfleet (Virginia Beach, Va. /Landstown) notched his 19th 20-point game of the season with 20 points on 7-of-16 shooting in 39 minutes. He also had six assists and four rebounds.
Seton Hill shot 54.5 percent from the floor (30-of-55) and went 23-of-25 from the foul line in the second half alone. Kameron Taylor finished with 30 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists.
The Crimson Hawks erased a 29-24 first half deficit to take a 47-42 lead two minutes into the second half.
The game was tied eight times in the second half alone, with Seton Hill taking the lead for good at 73-72 on a pair of foul shots by Taylor with 7:29 left to play. The Griffins extended their lead to eight and took a 10-point lead after Taylor's sixth free throw in 10 seconds of game action with 1:13 to play.
Junior guard
Brandon Spain (Baltimore, Md./Glen Burnie) added 12 points while freshmen
Dante Lombardi (Indiana, Pa./The Kiski School) and
Jacobo Diaz (Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain/CBA Gran Canaria) each had eight points.
