EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – Senior outfielder
Chris Schaedel (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier) collected a team-best four hits, but No. 20 East Stroudsburg's offense was too much in a doubleheader sweep Saturday afternoon.
IUP lost game one, 27-5, and game two, 2-1.The defeats drop IUP to 6-8 on the regular season. East Stroudsburg improves to 12-2.
Schaedel connected on two hits in each of the games to raise his season batting average to .451 (23-of-51). He also had two RBIs on the day, with each coming in game one.
In game two, IUP had some success in the third inning, with
Chris Calliari (Brockway/Brockway) singling then advancing on a throwing error all the way to third base on the next at bat. Outfileder
Hunter Bigler (Washington/Trinity) grounded out to second, scoring Calliari, to give IUP a 1-0 lead.
However, the Warriors answered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth, which proved to be the difference in the ballgame.
Sophomore
Christian McClure (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) had a solid outing, pitching all six innings and striking out eight, while scattering six hits and allowing two runs. In his last three starts, McClure has given up a combined six runs while striking out 17 batters.
In game one, East Stroudsburg outscored IUP 25-0 in the third, fourth and fifth innings in the lopsided 27-5 loss for IUP. The Crimson Hawks got on the board in the top of the first inning when Bigler scored on a
Dan Sepic (York, Pa./Central York) single, but two runs in the bottom of the inning gave the Warriors a 2-1 lead.
IUP got some momentum for game two going in the top of the seventh, scoring four runs on two hits.
IUP returns to action with another doubleheader Sunday at East Stroudsburg. First pitches are scheduled for noon and 2 p.m.
