INDIANA, Pa. – Bloomsburg softball got the best of the Crimson Hawks on Saturday as IUP fell in both games by scores of 9-0 and 10-4 at Podbielski Field.
IUP fell to 11-9 overall and 1-3 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Central Division. Bloomsburg improved to 21-4 and 4-0 in the league.
Bloomsburg scored in each of the first four innings of game one, including five runs in the fourth en route to the 9-0, five-inning victory.
Lauren Zola (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton-La Salle) took the loss for IUP, giving up seven hits and seven runs in 3.1 innings of work in the circle.
IUP jumped out to an early game two lead with four runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Hannah Mercer (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg Area) started things with a double to center, followed by a single from
Megan Gould (New Germany, Pa./Forest Hills) and a bases clearing double off the bat of
Allison Viguers (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East).
Amy Fairman (Creekside, Pa. /Marion Center) and
Mackenna Miller (Milton, Pa. /Milton) also drove in runs during the Crimson Hawks big first inning.
IUP starter
Brooke Darling (Springville, Pa./Elk Lake) kept Bloomsburg scoreless thru three before the Huskies exploded for eight fourth inning runs to take an 8-4 lead. They added two insurance runs in the sixth to come away with the 10-4 win.
The Crimson Hawks totaled 10 hits in game two, including three hits from Mercer and two more from Gould.
Brooke Darling (Springville, Pa./Elk Lake) started the game in the circle, giving way to
Megan Risinger (Creekside, Pa./Marion Center) in the fourth inning.
IUP is on the road for three straight, starting with a Tuesday doubleheader at Seton Hill.
