INDIANA, Pa. – Freshman
Ally Burrows (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) scored a career-high seven goals to lead IUP women's lacrosse to an easy 17-5 win over visiting Shippensburg at George P. Miller Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The seven goals are tied for the second most ever for a single game in IUP women's lacrosse history, and the most since Drew Hayden netted seven against Slippery Rock in 2014. It was Burrows' sixth multi-goal game and third game of at least four goals this year. The first year player is the Crimson Hawks' leading scorer with 25 goals in eight games.
The win was IUP's third straight as the Crimson Hawks improved to 5-3 overall and 3-0 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). Shippensburg fell to 3-4 overall and 0-3 in the league with the loss.
The game was never in doubt, with IUP scoring five times in in the first 10 minutes, including four goals from Burrows. The Crimson Hawks took a 9-2 lead into halftime and scored the first five goals in the second half before closing out the dominating 12-goal victory.
The Crimson Hawks outshot Shippensburg 29-to-16 and forced the Raiders into 23 turnovers. IUP also held a 20-to-6 draw control advantage.
Eight total Crimson Hawks scored, with
Brittney Palardy (Perry Hall, Md./Perry Hall) netting a hat-trick with three goals.
Amy Weinberg (Clarksville, Md./Atholton) dished out four assists and have five draw controls, as did
Brenna Gallagher (Evans City, Pa./Seneca Valley), who picked up three ground balls and caused two turnovers.
The Crimson Hawks are back in action on Tuesday when they host Seton Hill at 4 p.m.
