ERIE, Pa. – Junior
Lexie Palluconi (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) scored her sixth goal of the season as the IUP women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Gannon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play (PSAC) on Tuesday afternoon at McConnell Family Stadium.
The loss ends the Crimson Hawks' three game winning-streak as IUP falls to 3-2 overall and 2-2 in league play. Meanwhile, the Golden Knights improve to 2-2-1 overall behind a 2-2 mark in PSAC play.
Gannon started the scoring early on as Taylor Lewis found the back of the net in the fourth minute in beating IUP goalkeeper
Jessica Printz (Fairfax, Va./WT Woodson) to the left corner. The Crimson Hawks nearly tied the game minutes later as a shot from
Kiersten Zerbe (Danville, Pa. /Danville) was saved before
Hannah Stoof (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) had her shot blocked.
In the 36th minute
McKenna Keffel (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon) had her shot saved. IUP had perhaps its best scoring chance just before halftime as Palluconi had her header attempt saved by Gannon goalkeeper Shannon Differ in the 42nd minute.
The Crimson Hawks did not waste time in beginning the second half as
Megan Coyne (Fairview Park, Ohio/Fairview Park) had her shot saved less than two minutes into the second half. In the 55th minute, a shot from
Brandie Bryant (Essex, Md./Eastern Technical) was saved.
Palluconi tied the game at 1-1 in the 66th minute after she took a cross and beat Differ into the upper left corner from the left side of the box. Keffel tallied the assist. The Golden Knights then retook the lead in the 68th minute after Taylor Lewis scored from 20-yards out.
IUP begins a three game home-stand when it hosts Slippery Rock in PSAC play on Saturday, September 17 at 1:30 p.m.
