Women's Soccer shuts out Slippery Rock, 1-0

INDIANA, Pa. – Lexie Palluconi scored the game's only goal and Jessica Printz pitched her first shutout of the year as IUP women's soccer defeated Slippery Rock 1-0 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at South Campus Field.

With the win the Crimson Hawks improve to 4-2 overall and 3-2 in PSAC play. Meanwhile, the Rock falls to 2-4 overall behind a 2-2 league record.

Palluconi wasted little time in scoring her PSAC-leading seventh goal of the season as the junior scored just 4:19 into the first half. Slippery Rock came close to tying the game in the 22nd minute when a shot from Maddy Tletski went wide. IUP nearly added to its lead when a shot from McKenna Keffel was blocked at the 29:05-mark.

In the second half, the Crimson Hawks had a chance to extend the lead when a shot from Kiersten Zerbe was saved by Kylie Downs in the 55th minute. The IUP defense did not allow a shot for a nearly 23-minute stretch before as shot from Julianna Esposito was saved by Printz in the 76th minute.

The shutout by Printz was her seventh of her career. She saved two shots in the full 90 minutes of action.

The Crimson Hawks continue conference play on Wednesday, September 21 when they host Lock Haven at 4 p.m.
