Women’s Soccer Shuts out Lock Haven for Key PSAC win

INDIANA, Pa. -  The Crimson Hawks received goals from three different players as they scored a 3-0 shutout victory over visiting Lock Haven in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) women's soccer match on Wednesday afternoon at South Campus Field.

The victory was the second straight for IUP, improving to 5-2 overall and 4-2 in the PSAC. It was also the second straight shutout win for senior goalkeeper Jessica Printz (Fairfax, Va./WT Woodson), who saved seven shots and dropped her goals against average to 0.86 on the year.

The Crimson Hawks outshot Lock Haven (2-4, 1-4 PSAC) 12-to-10 on the day, and took the early lead with a header from Cassidy LeDonne (Murrysville, Pa. /Franklin Regional) off a perfectly placed corner kick from Kristen Baumgartner (Phoenixville, Pa./Spring-Ford) in the 13th minute. The score was the first of the season for LeDonne.

The lead increased to 2-0 in the 40th minute, as a Lock Haven turnover led to a long pass from Jenny Vietmeier (South Park, Pa./South Park) to a streaking Kallie Conte (Pittsburgh, Pa./Moon Area), who beat her defender down the right flank and threaded the net for her first goal of the season.

Freshman Gabrielle DeSousa (Buena, N.J./Buena Regional) capped the scoring with her first career goal, taking a pass from Brandie Bryant (Essex, Md./Eastern Technical) and looping a shot over the leap of the Bald Eagles goalie from 35 yards out. The goal came in the 83rd minute.

The win pushed the Crimson Hawks up to fourth in the PSAC standings with 12 points, tied with Kutztown. West Chester (21 points) leads the conference with a 7-0 league record, with East Stroudsburg (18) and Edinboro (15) both ahead of IUP.

It's a quick turnaround for the Crimson Hawks, who host Roberts Wesleyan in a non-conference match tomorrow at 3:30 p.m.
