INDIANA, Pa. – Senior
Lily McWilliams (Rockville, Md./Thomas Sprigg Wootton) combined for 18 kills, 36 digs and seven total blocks, helping IUP women's volleyball to wins over Holy Family and Alderson Broaddus on Saturday afternoon at the Kovalchick Complex.
The wins gave the Crimson Hawks a perfect 4-0 start to the season, as they also won a pair on Friday night in their season-opening Quality Inn Crimson Hawk Invitational.
The highlight of McWilliams' afternoon came during the 3-1 win over Holy Family, as she finished with 12 kills, 22 digs and five blocks. She added six kills, 14 digs, and two blocks against Alderson Broaddus.
After IUP's 3-1 win over Holy Family, the Crimson Hawks pulled out a dominating three-set win over Alderson Broaddus, winning by at least 10 points in each set.
Adding to the offensive attack on Saturday was junior
Natalie Cignetti (Indiana, Pa. /Indiana), as she finished with 22 kills, including 12 against Holy Family. Classmates
Alexis Anderson (Cleveland, Ohio/Mayfield) and
Gabby Egler (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Obama Academy) and sophomore
Elora Pittman (Jackson, Mich./Michigan Center) each had 13 kills. Senior
Lindsay Moeller (Troy, Mich./Troy) dished out a combined 65 assists.
Pittman, Anderson and Egler also provided the defensive punch. Pittman tallied a career-high nine total blocks against Holy Family, finishing with 12 on the day. Anderson had six total blocks and Egler added four. Sophomore
Jess Marut (Painesville, Ohio/Riverside) posted 58 total digs, with 35 coming in the opener.
This was the first 4-0 opening weekend for the IUP program since 2010.
The Crimson Hawks are back on the court on Tuesday evening when they host non-conference opponent Point Park at the Kovalchick Complex.
