Smith’s Career-high 31 Lead Crimson Hawks Past Slippery Rock

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Junior forward Megan Smith (Blain, Pa./West Perry) netted a career-high 31 points to lead IUP women's basketball to its 10th straight win, a 95-72 blowout victory at Slippery Rock on Friday night.
 
Smith went 12-of-17 from the field, hitting two three-pointers, and 5-of-5 from the free throw line. She also blocked a season-high four shots in 32 minutes of work.
 
The Crimson Hawks improved to 10-2 on the year with their 10th consecutive win, and is one of three teams in the division with an 8-0 conference record.
 
A hot-shooting night led to IUP's offensive explosion, as the Crimson Hawks shot 54.8 from the field, including 8-of-16 from three-point range. IUP scored 20-plus points in each quarter, taking a 26-10 lead after the opening 10 minutes.
 
Four Crimson Hawks reach double-figures
Along with Smith's 31, three more IUP players scored double-digits on the night. Redshirt sophomore guard Lauren Wolosik (Pittsburgh, Pa. /North Catholic) dropped 17 points, while sophomore forward Brittany Robinson (Harrisburg, Pa. /Central Dauphin East) added 14 and sophomore guard Ana Hollen (Bellwood, Pa./Bellwood) scored 12 points off the bench. It's the fifth time this season that IUP has had four reach double-figures in scoring, winning all five games.
 
Tonight was IUP's biggest point total in two years
The Crimson Hawks' 95 points tonight are the most since a 95-63 win over Cheyney on January 7, 2015. It's IUP's first 90-point performance of the season.
 
Up next
IUP remains on the road and will square off with Mercyhurst (13-1, 8-0) on Monday night in a battle of two of the top three teams in the PSAC West. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in Erie.
