INDIANA, Pa. – All five starters scored in double-figures and the IUP defense forced 21 turnovers as the 20th-ranked Crimson Hawks improved to 4-0 with a 78-50 victory over Bloomsburg at the Kovalchick Complex Sunday.
Senior forward
Megan Smith (Blain, Pa./West Perry) and redshirt junior guard
Lauren Wolosik (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Catholic) each scored a game-high 18 points for the Crimson Hawks, who shot 46 percent from the floor and a perfect 14-of-14 from the foul line in the win.
Also reaching double-figures was junior forward
Brittany Robinson (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) with 12 points, and senior guard
Halle Denman (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) and junior guard
Carolyn Appleby (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) with 10 each.
The difference came in the second quarter, with IUP taking an eight-point lead and ballooning that into a 25-point halftime advantage by outscoring the Huskies (1-4, 0-2) 28-11. The Crimson Hawks opened the quarter with four straight 3-pointers, using those treys to increase their lead to 20.
Wolosik made three from long range while Smith drained the fourth. The Crimson Hawks went 10-of-25 from deep, as Wolosik and Smith each tallied four 3-pointers apiece.
IUP built a lead of 32 points late in the third quarter on a pair of free throws by Wolosik. She was one of five players to be perfect from the charity stripe, going 4-of-4. Wolosik also dished out five assists, had four steals, a block, and turned it over just twice.
In addition to Wolosik's four steals, Robinson had three, and Denman and junior guard Ana Hollen each had two. IUP has now forced opponents into 20-plus turnovers in all four games this season.
