CHEYNEY, Pa. – Senior guard
Ayron Hutton (Virginia Beach, Va./Cape Henry) scored a career-high 21 points as the IUP men's basketball team defeated Cheyney 92-67 Sunday afternoon at Alfred Cope Hall.
Hutton had the hot hand from long distance, draining 7-of-10 shots from 3-point range in 30 minutes.
Junior forward
Jacobo Diaz (Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain/CBA Gran Canaria) was also a highlight for the Crimson Hawks, posting 15 points, a season-high 15 rebounds, with six assists and two steals. It was Cobo's fourth double-double in 10 games this year.
IUP improved to 6-4 overall with the win and 3-1 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), splitting its weekend road trip.
Hutton and Diaz were two of five Crimson Hawks to hit double-figures in scoring, with forward
Blake Danielak (Georgetown, Tex./Liberty Hill) and guard
Anthony Glover, Jr. (Toledo, Ohio/St. John's Jesuit) adding 17 and 13 points, respectively, while forward
Willem Brandwijk (Voorburg, The Netherlands/Holderness School (NH)) scored 11 points.
The Crimson Hawks made 13-of-30 attempts from 3-point range, their third straight game of at least 10 treys.
IUP outrebounded Cheyney 46-to-36 and forced the Wolves (1-6, 1-3) into a 33.9 field goal percentage (21-of-62).
