CHEYNEY, Pa. – Senior forward
Megan Smith (Blain, Pa./West Perry) scored a team-high 19 points, one of 11 Crimson Hawks to land in the scoring column, as seventh-ranked IUP women's basketball defeated Cheyney 86-55 on Sunday afternoon.
The Crimson Hawks improved to 7-0 on the season, including 4-0 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). It's the best start by the program since opened the 2014-15 season with 13 straight wins.
Among the 11 scorers were four in double-figures, including Smith, forward
Brittany Robinson (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) with 14 points, and forward
Maura D'Anna (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) and guard
Audrey Stapleton (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) with 11 points apiece.
Smith, Robinson, D'Anna and Stapleton combined to go 20-of-31 from the floor, 7-of-9 from 3-point range, and 8-of-9 from the foul line.
Smith's 19 points were scored in just 15 minutes of action, as she went 7-of-11 from the field, including four 3-pointers.
Smith helped the Crimson Hawks convert nearly 53 percent from the field, including 10-of-22 from 3-point range. IUP also went 14-of-19 from the foul line, outrebounded Cheyney 39-to-24, and assisted on 22 of its 31 made buckets.
