No. 5 Crimson Hawks improve to 8-0 with 61-54 win over Bowie State

INDIANA, Pa. – Junior forward Brittany Robinson (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) posted a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds to help fifth-ranked IUP women's basketball to a 61-54 win over visiting Bowie State on Thursday night at the Kovalchick Complex.

It was the second double-double in the last three games for Robinson, as the Crimson Hawks improved to 8-0 to open the season. The victory was also IUP's second over Bowie State (6-2) this season, defeating the Bulldogs 55-37 on the road two weeks ago.

Robinson went 5-of-9 from the field and 2-of-2 from the foul line, adding three blocks and a pair of assists in 32 minutes of work.

She was one of four Crimson Hawks in double-figures, with junior guard Carolyn Appleby (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) scoring a team-high 19 points. Senior forward Megan Smith (Blain, Pa./West Perry) added 14 points and redshirt junior guard Lauren Wolosik (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Catholic) scored 12 points.

The Crimson Hawks trailed 26-25 at the break despite outshooting Bowie State 45 percent to 32 percent in the first 20 minutes. IUP took a 40-38 lead into the fourth quarter, which was the start of a 15-6 run as the Crimson Hawks opened up a nine-point lead with three minutes to play. Bowie State rallied to make it a four-point game in the final minute before IUP sealed the game at the foul line.

Appleby did most of her damage from the line, hitting 9-of-10 on the night. She went 5-of-6 in the final 43 seconds of action, helping IUP ice a tight game.
