LAKELAND, Fla. – 2016 Division II national champion Florida Southern got the best of the Crimson Hawks on Wednesday night, as IUP women's lacrosse dropped a 15-4 decision to the Mocs.
It was the second game of the season for the 16th-ranked Crimson Hawks, who fell to 0-2. Florida Southern is ranked fifth in the nation and improved to 9-2 overall.
The Mocs scored seven straight times in the first half to take a 9-1 lead into halftime. The Crimson Hawks opened the second half with a goal from sophomore
Ally Burrows (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus), but Florida Southern responded with five straight scores to take a commanding 14-2 lead with eight minutes left to play.
IUP added two more goals from freshman
Kelly Shields (Grasonville, Md./Kent Island) and Burrows wrap up the scoring. Senior
Kim Hooven (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) opened the Crimson Hawks' scoring at the 21:11 mark of the first half, getting the assist from classmate
Carissa Smith (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick).
