Burrows and Greco Pace No. 17 IUP Women's Lacrosse to 15-8 win at Gannon

ERIE, Pa. – Sophomore attackers Ally Burrows (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) and Adriana Greco (Sound Beach, N.Y./Rocky Point) combined to score 10 goals in leading the IUP women's lacrosse team to a 15-8 win over Gannon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play at McConnell Family Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.

With the win, the No. 17 Crimson Hawks improve to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in PSAC play this season. Meanwhile, the Lady Knights fall to 2-3 overall behind an 0-1 league mark.

Burrows tied her season-high with six goals on just eight shots. She added one ground ball. Greco scored four goals on eight shots and added one draw control. Kelly Shields (Grasonville, Md./Kent Island) and Bri Chavis (Sykesville,Md./Century) each scored two goals while adding three assists. Shields and Chavis also combined for three ground balls and five draw controls. Midfielder Carissa Smith (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick) led the team with five ground balls while Hannah Bertolo (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) totaled four ground balls.

Tessa Mitchell put Gannon up 1-0 at the 24:44-mark of the first half. IUP then tied the game at 1-1 on a goal from Burrows nine-minutes later. The Lady Knights took a 3-2 lead on a tally from Leilani King with 4:41 to play before halftime. A goal from Greco at the 3:06-mark of the first half tied things at 3-3 before Gannon took a 4-3 halftime lead on a goal from Alexa Bower.

In the second half both teams traded goals for the first 10 minutes of the period as IUP tied the game at 6-6 on an unassisted goal from Burrows. After Gannon took a 7-6 lead, Burrows tied the game at 7-7 with a goal at the 13:53-mark. Less than a minute later Shields gave the Crimson Hawks an 8-7 lead her fourth goal of the season at the 13:03-mark. Shields then put IUP in front for good (9-8) with a goal at the 9:17-mark. From there the Crimson Hawks scored six unanswered goals to record the win.

IUP held a slim 27-25 shot advantage while also holding advantages in ground balls (21-17) and draw controls (15-11).
