SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Sophomore attacker
Ally Burrows (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) scored three goals in leading the No. 18 IUP women's lacrosse team to an 11-5 victory over Shippensburg in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play on Saturday afternoon at the Robb Sports Complex.
With the win the Crimson Hawks improve to 4-3 overall and 3-0 in league play. Meanwhile, the Raiders fall to 5-3 overall behind a 1-3 mark in conference play.
Burrows recorded her seventh straight multi-goal game to start the year. She added an assist and a groundball.
Kim Hooven (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) added two goals, three assists, four groundballs and caused five turnovers.
Chelsea Johnston (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) tallied two goals while
Bri Chavis (Sykesville,Md./Century) also scored two goals.
Defensively IUP was paced by Hooven and defender
Rachel Becker (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) who each totaled four ground balls.
Carissa Smith (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick) recorded three groundballs. Chavis also added two caused turnovers.
The Crimson Hawks wasted no time in scoring as Hooven found the back of the net just 41 seconds into the game off a feed from
Kelly Shields (Grasonville, Md./Kent Island). Hooven then pushed the lead to 2-0 at the 26:11-mark of the first half with her second tally as
Adriana Greco (Sound Beach, N.Y./Rocky Point) earned the assist. IUP then extended the lead to 5-0 with a goal from Shields at the 21:48-mark. A goal by Chavis and two from Johnston gave the Crimson Hawks an 8-0 lead with just over seven-minutes to play in the half. Shippensburg then struck got on the scoreboard with a goal from Ali Harclerode at the 4:26-mark.
Amanda Frank pulled Shippensburg to within 8-2 just 52 seconds into the second half. The Raiders then cut the lead in half at 8-4 after a goal from Morgan Stone at the 17:54-mark. IUP stopped the Shippensburg run as Burrows scored a man-up goal on a free position shot at the 16:41-mark. Burrows then extended the Crimson Hawks lead to 10-4 just 2:20 later off a feed from Hooven.
Goalie
Angela Lontoc (Columbus, Ohio/Dublin Scioto) made 16 saves while playing all 60 minutes.
Shippensburg held a slim 26-23 shot advantage while also holding a small edge in groundballs (26-22). The Crimson Hawks were 18-for-23 in clears while totaling nine draw controls.
