INDIANA, Pa. – Freshman
Kassie Kesneck (Houston, Pa./Chartiers-Houston) raked two doubles and a triple, and drove in four runs, as she helped IUP softball to a doubleheader sweep of Pitt-Johnstown on Monday afternoon at Ruth Podbielski Field.
Kesneck went a combined 5-for-7 in the doubleheader, scored three runs, and slugged 1.286 as the Crimson Hawks won by scores of 9-1 (six innings) and 4-2.
She led a total team effort on Monday, as 10 different Crimson Hawks drove in a run, while seven players combined to score their 13 runs.
Lauren Goetz (Cleveland, Ohio/Cuyahoga Heights) had another multi-hit day, going a combined 4-for-7 with a double, RBI, run scored, and two stolen bases.
Lauren Zola (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton-La Salle) was also masterful in the circle, earning a complete game win in the opener and picking up a save in game two. She struck out six batters in a combined 7.0 innings of work, scattering four hits without walking a single batter while giving up just one earned run.
Megan Risinger (Creekside, Pa./Marion Center) picked up the game two win, giving up seven hits and two earned runs while striking out three in 6.0 innings.
Both pitchers helped themselves at the plate, as injuries forced them to hit for themselves. Risinger hit a solo home run and Zola drove in a run in two plate appearances.
