INDIANA, Pa. –
Megan Risinger used sharp base running to score in a "walk-off" 6-5 game one victory, highlighting an IUP softball home doubleheader sweep of Lock Haven on Senior Day at Podbielski Field.
Risinger scored on a ground out by
Mackenna Miller, breaking from third when
Kassie Kesneck forced a throw to second base. The win preceded a Senior Day celebration as
Hannah Mercer and
Amanda Spindler were both honored in between games.
The Crimson Hawks then came out on top by a score of 3-1 in game two, sweeping Lock Haven to improve to 15-14 overall and 7-5 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Central Division.
The race remains tight in the Central, as IUP and Lock Haven are tied for third at 7-5, one game back of Mansfield (8-4) for second, with Bloomsburg (11-1) in the lead. The top three teams in the division advance to the 2017 PSAC Championships.
The Crimson Hawks totaled 18 hits on the day, with
Kaitlyn Beers one of eight IUP batters with multiple hits on Saturday. She went a combined 4-for-7 with two doubles and an RBI.
Laura Cotter also had a pair of doubles with an RBI, scoring three times, while
Amanda Parrish hit a double and home run, driving in a pair of runs.
Lauren Zola and
Macy Mularski put together strong performances in the circle, each tossing complete game wins. Zola struck out nine batters and scattered seven hits in the opener, while Mularski kept Lock Haven off the bases with three hits and two walks in game two, allowing just one earned.
Up next
IUP takes to the road on Monday with a pair of games at Seton Hill, before heading to Erie to face Mercyhurst on Wednesday.
