INDIANA, Pa. – The IUP baseball team earned a doubleheader split with visiting Seton Hill on Friday afternoon winning a back-and-forth game one 9-8 before dropping game two 6-3 at Dougherty Field.
With the split, the Crimson Hawks move to 14-20 overall and 10-8 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play. Meanwhile, the Griffins move to 25-14 behind a 10-8 league mark.
Wes Carson (Woodstock, Md./Marriots Ridge) was a combined 3-for-7 with a triple, home run, three RBI and three runs scored.
Nate Dickey (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) was a combined 3-for-6 with a double, two runs and an RBI.
In game one, Seton Hill jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the second on three base hits and a ground out. IUP answered in the bottom of the second with an RBI ground out from
Ted DeSanti (Erie, Pa./Erie Cathedral Prep). A
Dan Sepic (York, Pa./Central York) single up the middle cut the lead to 4-2 before a three-run home run from Carson gave the Crimson Hawks a 5-4 lead. Seton Hill took a 7-5 lead in the top of the fourth before IUP tied the game on solo home run from DeSanti and an RBI single from Dickey. After the Griffins took a 7-6 lead in the sixth, the Crimson Hawks put runners on with singles from Dickey and Corey Wheeler. The pair then came around to score on a single up the middle from
Scott Hess (Erie, Pa./Erie Cathedral Prep).
Dan Roan (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) earned the win in relief after tossing 1.1 innings while striking out two and scattering two hits.
In game two, IUP tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the second on a single to right by DeSanti. The Crimson Hawks then took a 2-1 lead in the third on an RBI single by Sepic that scored Wheeler. RBI singles in the fourth and fifth put Seton Hill on top 3-2. A two-run single and an unearned run pushed the Griffin lead to 6-2 before the Crimson Hawks cut the lead to 6-3 in the bottom of the sixth.

Colin Claus (Oakdale, Pa./West Allegheny) suffered the loss after pitching 5.0 innings while striking out six and allowing four runs. Zack Martinelli earned the win for the Griffins after throwing a complete game.
