No. 20 IUP Women’s Lacrosse powers through Senior Day win over Bloomsburg

INDIANA, Pa. – IUP's four seniors each made contributions as they led the 20th-ranked Crimson Hawks to a 9-8 victory over Bloomsburg during Senior Day on Saturday at Miller Stadium.

It was the second win of the weekend for the Crimson Hawks, who improved to 6-4 overall and kept pace in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) with a 5-1 league mark.

The group of IUP seniors included Hannah Bertolo (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional), Kim Hooven (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley), Maggie Malane (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional) and Carissa Smith (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick), as they were honored prior to the game.

The seniors combined for two goals, an assist, eight ground balls, two draw controls, and six caused turnovers on the day. Bertolo finished with five ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Leading the scoring charge was sophomore Adriana Greco (Sound Beach, N.Y./Rocky Point), who finished with three goals and three assists, while also picking up two ground balls and two turnovers.

Bloomsburg (7-5, 4-4 PSAC) opened the scoring less than three minutes into the contest, but the Crimson Hawks responded with six straight goals to end the half and take a 6-1 lead into the break.

The Huskies put the pressure on by scoring four goals in the first 13 minutes of the second half, closing IUP's lead to 6-5. Hooven and sophomore Ally Burrows (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) responded with back-to-back goals for the Crimson Hawks to get it back to a three-goal differential, but Bloomsburg scored three of the next four to make it a one-point game with 29 seconds left to play.

On the ensuing draw, junior Riley Greenleaf (Lansdale, Pa./Springfield) controlled the ball as IUP ran out the clock and secured the win.

IUP overcame 32 turnovers on the afternoon with another big game in the net from junior goalie Angela Lontoc (Columbus, Ohio/Dublin Scioto), who had 12 saves on the afternoon.
