BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – IUP softball ran into a streaking Bloomsburg team on Sunday, dropping both ends of a road doubleheader by scores of 8-2 and 5-3.
The Crimson Hawks fall to 10-13 overall with the losses, and 2-4 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Central Division. Bloomsburg improves to 14-12 and 7-1, having won seven of its last eight games.
IUP was outhit 19-8 on the afternoon, but did get a pair of home run blasts from
Amanda Parrish (Dysart, Pa./Altoona) and
Kaitlyn Beers (Reynoldsville, Pa./DuBois Area High School).
Parrish hit a two-run shot in the opener, while Beers' long ball came during a seventh inning rally in game two. The Crimson Hawks entered that final inning trailing 5-3 before getting an RBI double off the bat of
Laura Cotter (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny). Beers followed with a two-out, two run blast to cut Bloomsburg's lead to two runs before the Huskies ultimately came out on top.
