CALIFORNIA, Pa. – Senior forward
Lexie Palluconi (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) scored two goals to help lead IUP women's soccer to a 3-0 victory over California (Pa.) on Wednesday night at the Phillipsburg Sports Complex.
IUP freshman goalkeeper
Madeline Smakulski (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg Area High School) posted her fourth shutout of the season, as the Crimson Hawks improved to 5-4 overall and 4-4 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). They are now 4-1 this season when Smakulski starts in the net, as she lowered her goals against average to a PSAC-leading 0.391.
All three IUP goals came in the opening half, with senior midfielder
Megan Coyne (Fairview Park, Ohio/Fairview Park) opening the scoring in the 19th minute on a free kick.
Palluconi notched her goals in the 33rd and 41st minutes, beating Cal goalie Michaela Colon one-on-one each time, as senior mid
Brandie Bryant (Essex, Md./Eastern Technical) assisted on both.
The Crimson Hawks completely dominated the match, outshooting the Vulcans (1-7-1, 1-6-1) 23-2 on the night, including 15 shots on goal.
Up next
The Crimson Hawks come back home this weekend to host Millersville (3-4-2, 2-4-2) on Saturday. Kickoff is at 1:30 p.m.
