Parlavecchio, Keffel score in IUP Women’s Soccer 2-0 shutout at Davis & Elkins

ELKINS, W.Va. – Gianna Parlavecchio (Florham Park, N.J./Hanover Park) and McKenna Keffel (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon) netted goals as the Crimson Hawks scored a 2-0 non-conference road win over Davis & Elkins on Labor Day.

Parlavecchio scored in the 12th minute and Keffel added her goal in the 82nd as IUP improved to 2-1 on the young season. Both goals were the first of the season for Parlavecchio and Keffel. Brandie Bryant (Essex, Md./Eastern Technical) and Kristen Baumgartner (Phoenixville, Pa./Spring-Ford) each assisted on the Keffel score.

Freshman goalie Madeline Smakulski (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg Area High School) posted her first career shutout, keeping Davis & Elkins (0-2) off the scoreboard for the full 90 minutes.

The IUP defense limited D&E to just seven shots, five on goal. The Crimson Hawks outshot D&E 10-1 in the first 45 minutes.

The game is the only non-conference matchup on the schedule for the Crimson Hawks, who won their second straight after Saturday's 2-1 home win over Bloomsburg.
