Offensive onslaught propels IUP Field Hockey to 6-0 win over Seton Hill

INDIANA, Pa. - Junior Matti Reightler (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) scored two goals in leading the Crimson Hawks to a 6-0 shutout over Seton Hill on Wednesday evening at George P. Miller Stadium.

Not only was Reightler the only player to shine against Seton Hill; IUP's forward Kimberly Kelly (Coatesville, Pa./Bishop Shanahan), midfielder Madelyn Mullen and defenders Emma Smiley (Hellertown, Pa./Saucon Valley) and Bryn Nelson (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot) also contributed one goal to the Crimson Hawk's final score. Kelly, Mullen, Smiley and Nelson leave tonight's home opener with their first goals of the season.

IUP's offensive exploded after Reightler's first goal shot in the first minute of the game. A chain reaction of goals kicked off after Kimberly scored the second goal for the Crimson Hawks at the 8:47-mark. Following Kelly was Mullen's goal from a penalty corner by Reightler. Seton Hill than called a timeout, leading into another penalty corner by Smiley and then a goal by Nelson, high into left net. Reightler's second goal closed out the first period of the game for IUP.

IUP's defense stayed strong throughout. Senior goaltender Alyssa Lerda (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland) had two saves, as she was replaced by junior goaltender Olivia Accardi (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point), who started in the second half. Accardi grabbed six saves, with a combined total of eight saves from both goalies.

The Crimson Hawks out-shot Seton Hill 13-11, however both teams had eight shots on goal.

After this evenings win, IUP improves to 1-2 overall and remains 0-0 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).

IUP jumps back on the road to East Stroudsburg, Pa., to play against No. 3 ranked East Stroudsburg, Saturday, September 9 at 1 p.m.
