INDIANA, Pa. – Junior
Jessica Ignace had a team-high 11 kills but an athletic East Stroudsburg team was too much today as the Crimson Hawks dropped a three-setter Saturday afternoon at the Kovalchick Complex.
It was a somber Senior Day match for the Crimson Hawks as they fell to 7-19 overall and 3-10 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play.
Prior to the match, IUP celebrated the careers of its three seniors –
Sami Brown,
Breanna Damiani and
Jess Marut.
The Warriors (19-6, 9-4) were able to fend off a fighting IUP squad with 25-23 and 27-25 wins in the first two sets and clinched the match with a 25-15 victory in the third.
ESU grabbed an 8-0 lead in the first set but the Crimson Hawks clawed back to tie it up at 13-13. They eventually went on top 20-18 and held a 22-20 lead, but the Warriors scored five of the remaining six points to take the early lead.
IUP trailed nearly the entire second set, but kept things close, using a late 4-0 run to tie it up at 24-24. Two points later the set was tied at 25-25, but the Warriors again finished things off with the final two points to get the win.
Ignace finished with a .391 hitting percentage on 23 total attacks. Marut and sophomore
Liv Burns each had 13 digs, Damiani added 10.
This marked the final home match of the year for the Crimson Hawks, who have five outings left in the regular season.
