INDIANA, Pa. – In the 2018-19 season opener, the IUP men's and women's swimming teams combined for 13 wins in a split dual meet with Shippensburg at the Pidgeon Natatorium Wednesday evening.
Three different women won two individual events, including returning All-American
Nicole Smith, as the Crimson Hawks defeated Shippensburg 122-80. The men lost 112-93.
RESULTS
Smith won the 50 freestyle in 25.05 and the 100 freestyle in 53.15. She competed in both events at last year's NCAA Division II Championships.
Also winning events were
Paige Mikesell in the 200 free (1:57.94) and 100 butterfly (57.62),
Rachel Johnson in the 200 IM (2:15.90) and 100 breaststroke (1:08.73), Gabby Gironda in the 500 freestyle (5:30.65), and Sophie Manges in the 1000 freestyle (11:35.23).
On the men's side, individual winners included
Colter Long in the 100 butterfly with a time of 52.01,
Ryan Hartmann in the 200 IM with a time of 1:59.60, and
Noah Brockway in the 100 backstroke with a time of 53.38.
Notes
The IUP women won nine of 11 events while the men won four of 11 … In addition to the individual event winners, IUP won both the women's and men's 200 medley relays … Women's relay swimmers included
Regan Chalk, Johnson, Mikesell and Smith … Men's medley swimmers included Hartmann, Long,
RJ Hammond and Brockway.
