No. 5 Crimson Hawks unveil Elite Eight banner, cruise to easy win over Ohio Valley

INDIANA, Pa. – For the second straight afternoon the IUP women's basketball team made quick work of its opponent, as the fifth-ranked Crimson Hawks defeated Ohio Valley 101-62 Sunday at the Kovalchick Complex.

The win came on an already celebratory afternoon for the program and its fans as the 2018 NCAA Division II Elite Eight national semifinalist banner was unveiled prior to tipoff. The Crimson Hawks commemorated their record-breaking season of 30 wins and first ever national semifinalist appearance with members from last year's team in attendance.

IUP followed that up 11 3-pointers, 17 forced turnovers, a +27 rebound margin, and its 14th 100-point performance in program history.

Senior guard Carolyn Appleby led all IUP scorers with 16 points, one of three Crimson Hawks one double-figures and one of 12 players in the scoring column. Junior forward Lexi Griggs added 14 points and senior guard Lauren Wolosik had 11 points.

IUP scored at least 23 points in each quarter, including 29 in the third quarter. Those 29 points are the fourth most in a single quarter in program history.

Seven different players knocked down a 3-pointer, with redshirt junior guard Ana Hollen coming off the bench to knock down three in 11 minutes of action.

The Crimson Hawks totaled 56 rebounds, including 21 on the offensive end resulting in 24 second chance points. Junior forward Maura D'Anna had a team-high eight rebounds in just 13 minutes, with senior forward Brittany Robinson and Griggs each grabbing seven.

The Crimson Hawks finished up their season-opening weekend with a 2-0 record after wins over Ohio Valley and Alderson Broaddus (95-50) at the PSAC/G-MAC Challenge.
