Appleby’s 23, D’Anna’s career-high push No. 5 Crimson Hawks past Bloomsburg

INDIANA, Pa. – Senior guard Carolyn Appleby scored a season-high 23 points as the fifth-ranked IUP women's basketball team defeated Bloomsburg 73-46 at the Kovalchick Complex Wednesday night.

Junior forward Maura D'Anna added a career-high 18 points in just 25 minutes to help the Crimson Hawks improve to 3-0 and hand Bloomsburg (2-1) its first loss.

IUP got out to another hot start, scoring 22 points in the first quarter and outscoring the Huskies 17-5 in the second quarter to take a 39-15 lead into halftime. The Crimson Hawks shot 50.0 percent from the field and 6-of-8 from the foul line in the first 20 minutes.

Appleby led the charge with 19 points on her own in the first half, including 10 points in the first quarter.

The Huskies made a charge in the third quarter, hitting a pair of 3-pointers to go on a 16-6 run and cut the IUP lead to 14. Appleby stopped the run with a pair of buckets as IUP took a 17-point lead into the fourth quarter.

D'Anna went to work in the fourth quarter, putting to rest any idea of a Bloomsburg comeback with 10 points on a perfect 5-of-5 shooting. She also grabbed a pair of rebounds and blocked a shot in the final frame.

Notes
Even though it was against a PSAC opponent, it was a non-mandated game and did not count in the league standings … Appleby and D'Anna combined to shoot 17-of-25 (.680) from the field and 5-of-7 from the foul line … Led by D'Anna, IUP received 30 points from its bench … The 46 points allowed is a season-low for the IUP defense … The Crimson Hawks committed nine turnovers, also a season-low … IUP outrebounded Bloomsburg 43-25, getting 15 boards on the offensive glass … Senior guard Lauren Wolosik had 12 points, five assists, four rebounds and three steals … Junior guard Natalie Myers had a game-high 10 rebounds
