Offensive fireworks highlight IUP Men’s Basketball's 102-68 win at Clarion

CLARION, Pa. – Three IUP players scored 20 points and the Crimson Hawks made 20 3-pointers as a team in a dominating 102-68 victory over Clarion Wednesday night at Tippin Gymnasium.

Senior guard Anthony Glover, Jr. (Toledo, Ohio/St. John's Jesuit) led all scorers with 27 points, hitting 10-of-17 from the field including a career-high seven 3-pointers. With his big night from beyond the arc, Glover ran his season total to a new school record of 90 3-pointers made. That breaks the old record of 88 held by Julian Sanders (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) (2010-11) and Devante Chance (2014-15).

Glover also dished out six assists and didn't commit a turnover in 31 minutes of play. It was his fifth straight 20-point game and 15th of the year.

Junior forward Jacobo Diaz (Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain/CBA Gran Canaria) posted his 12th double-double of the year with 25 points and 11 rebounds, adding six assists in just 27 minutes. He was nearly perfect, making 10-of-11 from the field, including 4-of-4 from 3-point range.

Junior guard Dante Lombardi (Indiana, Pa./The Kiski School) scored 20 points on 7-of-9 shooting, going 4-of-5 from beyond the arc in 35 minutes. He nearly added another double-double with eight assists with just one turnover.

The 20 3-pointers are the second most in single game IUP history, and the team 56.5 field goal percentage the best performance for the Crimson Hawks in more than a year. It also marked the first time since last year's season opener that the Crimson Hawks scored 100 points in a game.

IUP put a halt to a two-game losing streak to improve to 19-7 overall and 15-4 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). The Crimson Hawks have a two-game lead over Gannon (17-8, 13-6 PSAC) in the Western Division with three games left in the regular season.

The Crimson Hawks dominated from the opening tip to the final whistle, grabbing an 18-6 lead within the first few minutes of action. They built their lead to 18 points at 36-18 before the midway point of the first half and took a 55-38 lead into halftime.

The 55 points were the most first half points scored by the Crimson Hawks this year.

Graduate forward Blake Danielak (Georgetown, Tex./Liberty Hill) scored eight points in just nine minutes off the bench in the first half. He went on to score 14 points and drained four 3-pointers.

The lead continued to grow throughout the second half, hitting 30 points with 9:50 to play and building to 40 points at 100-60 six minutes later.

For Clarion (3-22, 0-19 PSAC), it was the most points given up to a PSAC West team this season.

NCAA regional rankings
Tonight's game followed the NCAA's initial Division Ii regional rankings released earlier today. The Crimson Hawks were ranked fifth in these rankings, which included West Liberty at the top. Virginia State was second, followed by Shippensburg and West Chester in front of IUP. The NCAA tournament field of 64 will be announced Sunday, March 4.
