DINWIDDIE, Va. – Despite an eight strikeout game two performance from
Colin Claus (Oakdale, Pa./West Allegheny), the Crimson Hawks dropped a pair of ballgames to second-ranked West Chester by scores of 13-2 and 1-0 Saturday afternoon at the Dinwiddie Sports Complex.
Claus' eight K's came in a complete six innings of work, as he scattered three hits and gave up just one earned run. The Crimson Hawks couldn't give him any run production, however, with just three baserunners in the game two loss.
West Chester's lone run came in second inning on a home run to left field. Claus responded by retiring eight of the next nine batters, striking out the side in the third. He allowed just two baserunners the rest of the way.
The second-ranked Golden Rams (2-1) jumped on the Crimson Hawks early in the opening game, scoring in each of the first six innings including three runs in the first. West Chester led 11-0 in the fifth before IUP scored its first run, as
Chris Eisel (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) trotted home with the help of a balk. Eisel opened the inning with a double and moved to third with a fly out to right.
The Crimson Hawks scored again in the seventh as
Adam Polites (Northern Cambria, Pa./Northern Cambria) crossed home on an RBI single off the bat of
Wes Carson (Woodstock, Md./Marriots Ridge).
Eisel finished 3-4 at plate with a double and run scored.
Dan Sepic (York, Pa./Central York) was 2-2 with a double and a walk.
The Crimson Hawks fell to 0-6, with all six losses coming to teams ranked in the top 25.
