SALISBURY, N.C. –
Ally Burrows (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) totaled eight points and
Adriana Greco (Sound Beach, N.Y./Rocky Point) tallied six goals to help the 17th-ranked IUP women's lacrosse team to a blowout 25-7 win at Catawba Thursday afternoon.
The Crimson Hawks improved to 3-0 overall with the victory. It's their first 3-0 start since the 2013 season when they opened the year with a program record 11 straight wins.
The 25 goals are the fourth most in single game school history. The Crimson Hawks have scored a combined 68 goals in their first three games, the best ever three-game start for the program.
Burrows and Greco have been two of the biggest contributors to that high-scoring start. Each have a team-best 14 goals this year.
Greco scored four of IUP's first seven goals as the Crimson Hawks got out to a 7-2 lead in the first 10 minutes of action. They later withstood a 3-1 Catawba run that narrowed their lead to 9-5 by scoring five of the last six goals of the half. IUP took a 14-6 lead into the break.
Burrows scored two of IUP's five goals down the stretch, helping the Crimson Hawks score three times in the final 1:49 before the first horn.
Burrows opened the scoring in the second half as the Crimson Hawks dominated the last 30 minutes of play. They made it a running clock 3:29 later when
Bri Chavis (Sykesville,Md./Century) found the back of the net, and outscored Catawba 11-1 in the second half.
The Crimson Hawks outshot Catawba 42-to-17, including 17-to-4 in the second half. IUP also took advantage of Catawba's four yellow cards, going 4-for-4 with five goals on extra man opportunities.
