ERIE, Pa. – The IUP women's lacrosse team scored six goals in the second half, but came short as the Merychurst Lakers pulled away with the 12-11 win Tuesday evening at Tuillo Field.
The Crimson Hawks trailed 11-7 within minutes into the second half, scoring six straight goals and tieing the game up from a goal from
Riley Greenleaf (Lansdale, Pa./Springfield) in the last two minutes of play. However, the Crimson Hawks' comeback failed, as the Lakers scored with 0:28 left in the game to take the lead and victory.
Greenleaf scored five of IUPs' 11 goals, along with picking up five points, six shots and two groundballs.
Adriana Greco (Sound Beach, N.Y./Rocky Point) scored three goals and dished out an assist. Greco scored 2-3 of her goals on free position shots.
Today's loss ended IUP's undefeated record, now falling to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). Mercyhurst improves to 3-2 and 1-0 in the conference.
The Crimson Hawks outshot Mercyhurst, 30-24.
Goaltender
Lauren Piecknick (Upper Saint Clair, PA/Upper Saint Clair) had seven saves and four ground balls.
