Burrows ties IUP Women’s Lacrosse scoring record in 22-14 win over Millersville

INDIANA, Pa. – Junior Ally Burrows (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) scored nine goals to help lift the 19th-ranked Crimson Hawks to a 22-14 home win over Millersville Saturday afternoon at Miller Stadium.

The nine goals by Burrows ties the IUP single game program record, originally set by Jackie Rutkowski against Slippery Rock in 2007. Burrows added an assist to finish with a career-high 10 points, tied for fifth most in a single game at the school.

It's also a record-setting two-game stretch for Burrows, as the 17 goals this week is more than any other player over two games in program history.

The win ended a two-game losing streak for the Crimson Hawks as they improve to 5-2 overall and even their Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) record at 2-2.

Joining Burrows in the scoring column was classmate Adriana Greco (Sound Beach, N.Y./Rocky Point), who tied a season-high with six goals. Kelly Shields (Grasonville, Md./Kent Island) scored three and dished out six assists for nine points – all career-highs.

Millersville (6-3, 2-3 PSAC) grabbed an early 5-4 lead after scoring three straight goals over a 2:24 time span. Burrows helped give IUP a 7-6 lead with her third and fourth goals of the game, but the Marauders came right back to tie the score and keep the game tight.

The Crimson Hawks then reeled off four straight goals and had five of the last six scores in the first half to take a 12-8 advantage into halftime.

Burrows had five of her nine goals in the first 30 minutes and IUP held a 20-15 shot advantage.

IUP kept the momentum going with four straight goals to open the half, including two from Greco and one each by Shields and Burrows. Millersville was able to match IUP's goals over the remainder of the half, but the Crimson Hawks still held a 20-12 lead with 10 minutes to go.

Burrows added her record-tying goal with 1:53 to play, her team-leading 36th goal of the year.

Burrows and Greco in the record books
Burrows moved into third place in IUP history with 139 career goals. She's 17 shy of tying Kim Hooven (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) with 156 and 28 away from all-time leader Alexa Lodovici (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) with 167.

Greco has 113 career goals, tied for eighth all-time.

Up next
The Crimson Hawks look forward to their third straight home game on Tuesday, this one against Edinboro (3-6, 0-5). Game time is set for 4 p.m.
