INDIANA, Pa. –
Kelly Shields (Grasonville, Md./Kent Island) scored three goals and was one of eight Crimson Hawks to find the back of the net Tuesday as No. 21 IUP women's lacrosse defeated Edinboro 16-5 at Miller Stadium.
Shields added six assists for her second consecutive nine-point game as the Crimson Hawks improved to 6-2 overall and 3-2 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).
Also scoring three goals were
Adriana Greco (Sound Beach, N.Y./Rocky Point) and
Ally Burrows (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus).
Riley Greenleaf (Lansdale, Pa./Springfield) and
Victoria Kerkovich (Ocean City, MD/Stephen Decator) each netted two goals, and
Lauren Robinson (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck High),
Bri Chavis (Sykesville,Md./Century), and
Betty Wesney (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) all scored one goal apiece.
IUP scored 20 seconds into the game and jumped on top early with seven goals over the first 12:27 of action. The Crimson Hawks took a 10-goal lead and made it a running clock with just under eight minutes to play, posting their fourth blowout win of the season.
The Crimson Hawks owned possession of the ball for most of the game, gaining 18 draw controls compared to Edinboro's four.
Kathryn Zeiler (Bethel Park, PA/Bethel Park) grabbed a season-high six while Chavis added five.
IUP also tallied more ground balls (28-18) and more shots (46-16) than the Fighting Scots. Goalie
Lauren Piecknick (Upper Saint Clair, PA/Upper Saint Clair) stopped eight of Edinboro's 13 shots on goal.
