EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. –
Ally Burrows (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) scored a team-high four goals and assisted on another but No. 21 IUP women's lacrosse couldn't overcome a strong second half by No. 20 East Stroudsburg in a 14-10 loss Saturday afternoon at Whitenight Field.
The Crimson Hawks held a 6-4 lead at halftime and went up 9-8 midway through the second half, but the streaky Warriors reeled off six straight goals over a 12 minute span to clinch victory.
IUP fell to 6-3 overall and 3-3 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), while ESU improved to 7-2 and 6-1.
The Crimson Hawks opened the game strong, taking a 4-0 lead just over 10 minutes in. They saw four different players chip in, including
Adriana Greco (Sound Beach, N.Y./Rocky Point), Burrows,
Bri Chavis (Sykesville,Md./Century) and
Kelly Shields (Grasonville, Md./Kent Island).
ESU came back with three straight goals, but Burrows scored her second and third goals of the game to put the Crimson Hawks back on top by three with 1:59 to play in the half.
The Warriors scored four straight goals early in the second half to take an 8-7 lead, but goals from
Lauren Robinson (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck High) and Greco again put IUP on top with 16:40 to play. That's when ESU went on its late run, taking a 14-9 lead with 3:25 left.
IUP picked up 14 draw controls (ESU 12) and forced 18 turnovers, but the Warriors went 7-17 in free position shots (IUP 3-8) and outshot the Crimson Hawks 38-30.
