INDIANA, Pa. – The Crimson Hawks combined for 26 runs on 28 hits as IUP's offense came alive in a two-game sweep of Clarion Friday afternoon at Owen J. Dougherty Field.
IUP won by scores of 9-6 in game one and 17-4 in game two. The 17 runs are tied for the highest run production for the Crimson Hawks this year.
They improved to 8-18 overall and 5-9 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division with the wins. Clarion is now 7-23 and 2-12.
Nate Dickey (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) finished 5-for-9 with two home runs and six runs batted in, as 11 different Crimson Hawks tallied at least one base hit.
Dickey was one of four players to go yard Friday, with
Ted DeSanti (Erie, Pa./Erie Cathedral Prep),
Matt Swartz (Sarver PA/Freeport) and
Dan Sepic (York, Pa./Central York) each hitting home runs. All five of those homers came in IUP's game two blowout victory.
DeSanti and
Wes Carson (Woodstock, Md./Marriots Ridge) each had four hits, four RBI, and four runs scored on the day. Three of Carson's hits were doubles. In addition to his homer, Swartz also hit a pair of doubles and scored four times.
Getting the wins on the mound for the Crimson Hawks were
Colin Claus (Oakdale, Pa./West Allegheny) in game one and
Alex Hart (State College, PA/The Kiski School) in game two.
Claus pitched into the sixth inning, giving up five runs – four earned – with eight hits while striking out five batters without a walk. He improved to 2-3 on the year with the win.
Hart tossed four scoreless innings before giving way to relievers in the fifth inning. He struck out a season-high seven batters, giving up three earned runs on three hits in his first IUP victory.

These two teams will finish their four-game set Saturday with another doubleheader at Dougherty Field. Friday's games were originally scheduled to be played in Clarion, but were moved due to poor field conditions.
The Crimson Hawks will be going for their second straight season sweep of Clarion.
First pitch Saturday is set for 1 p.m.
