INDIANA, Pa. –
Anthony Rigous (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) hit a walk-off solo home run to give the Crimson Hawks a 9-8 seventh inning comeback victory over Clarion Saturday afternoon at Dougherty Field, capping a four-game sweep of the Golden Eagles. IUP won Saturday's opener 9-7.
Rigous' homer was the third for IUP in the seventh inning alone, as the Crimson Hawks rallied from an 8-5 deficit.
Cory Wheeler (Butler, Pa./Butler) led off the bottom half with a homer to left field, and two batters later
Ted DeSanti (Erie, Pa./Erie Cathedral Prep) hit a two-run shot to left center to tie the game at 8-8.
Rigous was the very next batter as he put a stamp on a successful weekend.
With the Crimson Hawks' sweep, they improve to 10-18 overall and 7-9 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division.
IUP hit seven home runs on the day and finished with 12 on the weekend. DeSanti had the biggest bat with three round-trippers and eight runs batted in on Saturday. For the weekend he hit .714 with 10 hits, including four homers and a double, 12 RBI, eight runs scored, and a 1.643 slugging percentage.
Wheeler and Rigous each hit two home runs Saturday and combined for five RBI.
Brock Bonadio (Connellsville, PA/Connellsville) went 5-for-8 in the doubleheader as the Crimson Hawks totaled 22 base hits.
Jeff Allen (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg Area) picked up the win in game one, tossing 4.2 innings with five strikeouts, allowing seven hits and two earned runs.
Dan Roan (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) pitched the fifth and sixth innings before giving way to
Christian McClure (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley), who struck out two in a scoreless seventh to pick up the save.
Brian Albert (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum) went six innings in game two, fanning five batters while giving up seven hits and three earned runs. He exited in the seventh after giving up a Clarion home run that cut IUP's lead to 5-4. The Golden Eagles went on to score four more runs before Roan got the final two outs. He was credited with his first win of the year in relief.
After the successful weekend, the Crimson Hawks moved into a tie with California (Pa.) for fifth place in the PSAC West, just two games out a playoff spot with three divisional series left.

The Crimson Hawks head to Mansfield for a pair of cross-divisional games Tuesday afternoon. They return to PSAC West play next weekend with a four-game set with Slippery Rock.
