INDIANA, Pa. –
Adriana Greco (Sound Beach, N.Y./Rocky Point) scored the game-winning goal with 5:32 remaining and the Crimson Hawks held off Seton Hill the rest of the way for a dramatic 12-11 Wednesday night under the lights at George P. Miller Stadium.
Greco finished with five goals on the night, keeping IUP alive in the race for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) postseason berth.
The Crimson Hawks are 9-5 overall and 6-5 in the conference, currently tied with Bloomsburg for the sixth and final spot in the conference tournament with one game left to play.
Greco's third goal of the game gave the Crimson Hawks a 7-3 lead with 3:16 left in the first half. It was the last score of the half for IUP, but not for Seton Hill (4-11, 3-8) as the Griffins scored twice in the last 2:45.
Seton Hill scored again to open the second, cutting IUP's lead to 7-6. After another Greco goal, the Griffins rattled off three straight goals to take their first lead of the night at 9-8 with 16:54 left to play.
Both teams traded goals to tie the game at 9-9, 10-10, and 11-11 over an eight minute span.
After Greco's final goal, Seton Hill had several chances to tie things up, but a big save by IUP goalie
Lauren Piecknick (Upper Saint Clair, PA/Upper Saint Clair) with 1:45 left kept the win intact. The Griffins regained possession with just over a minute to play, but they turned it over for the final time with 38 seconds left as IUP clinched the win.
Piecknick saved 12 shots on the night, the fifth time in her last six outing of at least 10.
Katie Martyn (Annapolis, Md./Archbishop Spalding) picked up seven draw controls, going over 100 on the season.
Riley Greenleaf (Lansdale, Pa./Springfield) scored three goals and
Kelly Shields (Grasonville, Md./Kent Island) added two scores with an assist.
