JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – Freshman
Mahogany Willis scored the game-winning goal in overtime to push IUP women's soccer past Pitt-Johnstown 3-2 in the 2018 season opener Thursday.
Willis netted the winning goal in the 97th minute during a scramble in the box.
Nikki Bowman was credited with the assist.
The goal from Willis capped a comeback for the Crimson Hawks, who trailed 2-1 after a UPJ goal in the 74th minute.
Gianna Parlavecchio tied the match at 2-2 off a corner kick in the 83rd minute, getting an assist from
Emily Grychowski.
Willis had two shots at the win in the final minutes, but neither found the net. Her overtime shot was the only attempt in extra time.
Hannah Stoof put the Crimson Hawks on the board first with a goal from
Carley Donia in the 15th minute.
The Crimson Hawks outshot UPJ 20-4, getting 10 shots on goal.
The win stands as revenge for last year's season-opening 2-1 overtime loss to Pitt-Johnstown on South Campus Field.
