INDIANA, Pa. – Freshman
Kylie Osborn totaled 29 kills as IUP women's volleyball split a pair of matches on the opening day of their Quality Inn Crimson Hawk Invitational Friday at the Kovalchick Complex.
The Crimson Hawks defeated Holy Family in four sets in the nightcap, winning 25-12, 25-13, 20-25, and 25-18. Osborn led the way with a season-high 16 kills on 39 attacks, totaling 17.5 points in the match. Classmate
Lexi Hraga added seven kills while junior
Jessica Ignace and sophomore
Jasmine Raudys each had six.
IUP (1-5) got out to a hot start with 13 kills and a .407 hitting percentage in the big opening set win. It continued in the second set with a .300 hitting percentage, while the defense forced Holy Family (1-3) into a combined 22 hitting errors in the first two sets.
The Crimson Hawks finished the match with six team blocks, including five total blocks from Raudys.
Seniors
Jess Marut and
Breanna Damiani were solid in the back, tallying 28 and 10 digs, respectively.
IUP goes five with West Liberty in the opener
The Crimson Hawks came out on the opposite end in the day's first match with West Liberty (5-1), falling in five sets. Both teams traded wins, as the Hilltoppers took the first (25-16) and third (25-18) sets before the ultimate 15-6 set five victory.
IUP's best offensive performance came in its 25-19 set two win, finishing with a .324 hitting percentage on 37 total attacks.
Hraga led the way with a season-best 17 kills on 55 attacks, with Ignace adding 14 on 35 (.314) and Osborn 13 on 57.
Ignace also had five total blocks while sophomore
Shelby Miles had four, all assists.
Marut had a season-best 34 digs in the opener. She finished with 62 digs and averaged 6.9 digs per set on the day. Osborn added 20 digs.
Sophomore setter
Dominica Niccolai had a season-best 48 assists against West Liberty and totaled 83 on the day.

The Crimson Hawks wrap up the two-day invitational Saturday with matches against Lake Erie (12:30 p.m.) and Roberts Wesleyan (3 pm.)
