INDIANA, Pa. - The Crimson Hawks opened their 2018 fall season with a 2-1 loss to Bellarmine in non-conference play, Saturday afternoon at George P. Miller Stadium.
The loss starts their season 0-1, while the Bellarmine Knights improve to 2-1.
The Crimson Hawks were the first to light up the board in the 34th minute with a goal from senior Selena Gonzales West assisted by junior teammate Brianna Lubarsky. Lubarsky's shot from three yards out on the left wing bounced off the keeper's pad right to West, who poked the ball into the cage for the score.
Their 1-0 lead fell short in the second half, with Bellarmine scoring their first goal at the 62:57 mark and then adding another just four minutes later.
Senior goaltender Olivia Accardi totaled five saves, falling short behind Bellarmine's goalie who had six. IUP and Bellarmine combined for a total of seven shots on goal.
The Crimson Hawks outshot BU 10-1 in the opening half, but the script flipped in the final 35 minutes as the Knights owned a 10-1 shot advantage and took five corners compared to none for IUP.
