CALIFORNIA, Pa. – Sophomore
Madi Burns and freshman
Kylie Osborn each had 11 kills to lead the Crimson Hawks to a three-set win over Southern New Hampshire in their first Saturday match at the Vulcan Invitational.
IUP posted scores of 25-16, 25-22 and 25-14 in the sweep, with Burns hitting .219 and Osborn .259 for the match. Junior
Jessica Ignace added nine kills and hit .438 as the Crimson Hawks had their best offensive performance of the season so far with a .245 hitting percentage.
Sophomore
Dominica Niccolai was the main distributor with 34 assists.
Defensively, IUP forced Southern New Hampshire (1-5) into 20 attack errors and a 0.04 hitting percentage. The Crimson Hawks had 6.0 total blocks, with sophomore
Jasmine Raudys finishing with four block assists. Osborn added three assists.
Senior
Breanna Damiani had 13 digs and freshman
Lexi Hraga added 11.
Crimson Hawks fall to NDC
IUP ended up splitting its day two matches, dropping a three-setter to Notre Dame (Ohio) later in the day. That match was much closer than what the final would suggest, as the Crimson Hawks lost each set by identical 26-24 scores.
Ignace had a team-high 11 kills while Burns added 10 and Osborn had nine.
Ignace named to All-Tournament Team
The middle blocker led the Crimson Hawks with 38.0 total points and 31 kills in four matches this weekend. She also had a team-best .272 hitting percentage and added 10 block assists.
Up next
The Crimson Hawks, now 4-8 on the season, open up conference play next weekend with a pair of home matches against Shippensburg (10-2) Friday and Pitt-Johnstown (4-5) Saturday.
