SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Senior guard
Carolyn Appleby scored a season-high 24 points to help lead No. 1-ranked IUP women's basketball to a dominating 90-54 win at Slippery Rock Saturday afternoon at Morrow Field House.
It was one of several highlights for the Crimson Hawks who continued to their strong start to their season and improved to 13-0 overall, 8-0 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).
Appleby went 7-of-16 from the field, drained four 3-pointers and converted a perfect 6-of-6 from the foul line and led all scorers.
The Crimson Hawks scored at least 20 points in all four quarters and got out to a 27-14 lead after just 10 minutes of play.
They used a fast pace and the 3-pointer to jump out to that big lead, draining five shots from deep in that opening quarter with Appleby hitting three of those and scored nine points.
IUP added four more treys in the second quarter and finished the game with a season-high 14. It's tied for the second most 3-pointers in program history and the most since hitting 14 in a game against Slippery Rock in February 2010.
Six different players drained at least one triple, with Appleby and junior guard
Natalie Myers each tallying four. Redshirt senior guard
Lauren Wolosik added three.
Myers was one of two Crimson Hawks with a double-double, finishing with season-highs of 16 points and 12 rebounds. She also had three blocks and three assists.
Junior forward
Lexi Griggs had the other double-double, her third of the season, finishing with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
The Crimson Hawks also tied the program's single game record of 15 blocks. In addition to Myers' three, redshirt sophomore
Courtney Alexander had four in just 10 minutes, with Wolosik, Griggs, and senior forward
Brittany Robinson each swatting two.
Wolosik was the fourth IUP player to score in double-figures with 11 points and dished out a team-high six of the Crimson Hawks' 25 assists.
All 12 players who saw the court for the Crimson Hawks added to the scoring column.
