EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – Senior guards
Carolyn Appleby and
Lauren Wolosik combined for 44 points as the No. 1 ranked IUP women's basketball team cruised to an 84-62 win over East Stroudsburg Wednesday night at Koehler Fieldhouse.
Appleby finished with a season-high 25 points while Wolosik dropped 19 and IUP picked up its 14th consecutive win to open the season.
The two combined to shoot 16-of-25 (.640) from the field, make six 3-pointers, go 6-of-6 at the foul line, dish out nine assists and swipe three steals.
The Crimson Hawks got out to another fast start, keyed by Appleby and Wolosik in the first quarter. IUP scored on five straight trips down the court in the early going and shot 9-of-17 from the field to take a 24-10 lead after the first 10 minutes.
Wolosik knocked down three 3-pointers to lead the charge, while Appleby scored seven points in the first quarter.
The lead stayed in double-digits during the second quarter with the Crimson Hawks wrapping up the half with a 12-4 run as Appleby scored another seven points. IUP led 43-22 at the break.
The Crimson Hawks continued to control the tempo on both ends of the floor throughout the second half, going on top by as many as 28 points in the fourth quarter. Their offensive efficiency increased in the second half, shooting 56 percent from the field and 9-of-12 from the foul line.
Senior forward
Brittany Robinson posted her first double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

The Crimson Hawks are No. 1 in the WBCA Top 25 and No. 4 in the D2SIDA Media Top 25 polls … IUP is now 3-0 playing as the No. 1 team in the nation … At 14-0, this is the second best start to a season in the
Tom McConnell era … He led IUP to a 15-0 start last year … It's the third best start in program history, with the 1999-00 team starting 16-0 … Appleby moved into sixth place in program history with 1,369 career points … She's just two points away from tying Jan Lightcap (1987-91) with 1,371 points and moving into the top five … It was Appleby's 20th career 20-point game.

The Crimson Hawks return home for the first time in two weeks when they host Edinboro Saturday at the Kovalchick Complex. The Fighting Scots are 10-4 overall and 6-3 in the PSAC and lost to Gannon 71-57 Wednesday night. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
