Wolosik hits 1000-point milestone, No. 1 Crimson Hawks prevail at Mercyhurst

ERIE, Pa. – Redshirt senior guard Lauren Wolosik went over 1,000 career points, highlighting top-ranked IUP women's basketball's 74-57 win at Mercyhurst Wednesday night.

The Crimson Hawks improved their season-opening win streak to 12 straight games and remain the only undefeated team in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference at 7-0 with the 17-point victory.

Wolosik entered the night needing just six points to reach the milestone and it didn't take her long. On IUP's third possession after 2:01 of play, she drilled her second 3-pointer of the game to give her 1,000 on the dot.

Wolosik became the 26th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points and joins teammate Carolyn Appleby who reached the milestone last season.

Wolosik finished the night with 13 points, eight assists and four rebounds, and didn't turn the ball over in 34 minutes of play. She shot 4-of-10 from the field, including 3-of-6 from 3-point range, and hit both free throw attempts.

Her two 3-pointers were part of an early scoring onslaught for the Crimson Hawks as they took a 19-4 at the midway point of the opening quarter. IUP knocked down four treys during that span that included an 11-0 run to start the game.

IUP took a 24-10 lead into the second quarter and scored 21 more points before halftime to continue the hot shooting. The Crimson Hawks shot 56.7 percent (17-of-30) in the first half, including 7-of-10 from 3-point range and led 45-30 at halftime.

IUP's scoring slowed down in the second half, but the Crimson Hawks defeated also limited Mercyhurst as they gave up just seven points in the third quarter. All 12 players would end up seeing the court for the Crimson Hawks and nine scored as they closed out the 17-point win.

Wolosik was joined in the scoring column by senior guard Carolyn Appleby, who scored a game-high 17 points. She went 7-of-13 from the field with a pair of 3-pointers, seven assists, five rebounds and two blocks.

Senior forward Brittany Robinson just missed a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds, adding three blocks and a steal.
