SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The IUP men's and women's swimming teams opened their 2019-20 seasons Wednesday night with a pair of losses to Shippensburg at Heiges Field House. The Ship men won 140-90 while the women edged out the Crimson Hawks 133-129.
Rachel Johnson and
Paige Mikesell each won a pair of events on the women's side, with
Clara Gracia also posting an individual victory.
Johnson took home top honors in the 50 and 100 breaststroke with times of 31.51 and 1:08.82, respectively. Mikesell followed up her All-American freshman season with wins in the 50 and 100 butterfly events, posting times of 27.02 and 59.47.
Gracia won the 1000 freestyle with a time of 11:23.54 in addition to a second place finish in the 500 free.
On the men's side winners included
Nathan Dill,
Mauricio Lobo,
Gerard Morato and
Kyle Mowid. Dill won the 500 free with a time of 5:19.54, Lobo the 50 fly at 25.25, Morato the 100 IM with a time of 58.05 and Mowid won the 100 breast with a time of 1:07.31.

IUP won a combined 11 of 28 events on the night … Included in the win total are a pair of relays – the women's 200 medley and the men's 200 freestyle … 200 medley participants for the women were
Olivia Santee, Johnson, Mikesell and
Michelle Lopes … The men's winning relay consisted of
Taylor Auger, Mowid, Dill and
Shane Scudder … The women also had seven second place finishes, including
Colleen Como in the 1000 free, Gabby Gironda in the 200 free, Lopes in the 50 and 100 free,
Paige McCullough in the 100 breast, Johnson in the 100 IM and Gracia in the 500 free.
