IUP Field Hockey edged by No. 8 Shippensburg on the road

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – For the second time this season the Crimson Hawks came up short in their bid for an upset over a top-10 opponent as they lost to No. 8 Shippensburg 1-0 Saturday afternoon.
 
IUP dropped to 8-8 overall and 3-5 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).
 
The loss came on the same day that Millersville fell and Bloomsburg won, creating a three-way tie for the sixth and final spot in the PSAC tournament with one week to play.
 
The Crimson Hawks own the tiebreaker with Bloomsburg while Millersville defeated IUP in the head-to-head. Meanwhile, Bloomsburg recently defeated Millersville.
 
Saturday, Shippensburg (10-5, 7-2) held the offensive edge with a 17-5 shot advantage, including 7-3 in shots on goal. The Raiders' also had 12 penalty strokes compared to IUP's six.
 
The game's lone goal came on a penalty stroke as PSAC scoring leader Jazmin Petrantonio connecting just over three minutes into the second half.
 
IUP had just two more shots after that goal, including one that sailed wide off a penalty corner in the fourth quarter.
 
Paeton Hartmann, Lizzi Clemmer and Blaise Cugini were all credited with shots on goal for IUP.
 
Up next
The Crimson Hawks close out their regular season next week, starting with a home night contest against Mercyhurst Wednesday. Game time is 7 p.m.
